Education Qualification
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country. Completed Ph.D. no more than three years before the closing date.
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with excellent knowledge of the soil carbon cycling, soil microbial processes, and/or carbon cycle models. In the appointment process, special attention will be given to candidates with degrees in a relevant discipline (engineering, applied mathematics, soil science, ecology, hydrology, (bio)physics) and a strong computational, mathematical, or statistical background (e.g., metaanalysis, DNA-based microbial community analysis, mathematical modelling). Proven experience with computer programming (e.g. R, Python, Matlab) is vital. Experience of publishing in top-level journals in English is also important.
Job Description
The position will be associated with one of the projects: “Holistic management practices, modelling and monitoring for European forest soils” (HoliSoils), “Soil microbial responses to land use and climatic changes in the light of evolution” (SMILE), or “Carbon Loss In Plants, Soils and Oceans” (CALIPSO). These projects investigate how soil processes and biota drive the cycles of carbon and nutrients, using various modelling approaches and data analyses. Collaborations with several partners across Europe in both HoliSoils and SMILE projects are envisioned, providing a unique opportunity for networking.
Main responsibilities
The appointed postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for:
-
- Analysing data from the literature and from project partners
- Developing new process-based models that describe the function of soil biota
- Attending project meetings, writing result reports, and participating to activities in the projects beyond modelling (data analyses, conceptual developments etc.)
The employment
-
- Full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years.
- Start date: March 1, 2024, or as per agreement.
